1st Grade
First-graders will read books and write about the characters, setting and main events. They will count forward and backward by twos, fives and tens. Students will continue learning basic math and be able to break groups into ones and tens – for instance, 29 is two 10s and nine ones.
Encourage kids to read aloud at home and identify key parts of a book, such as the title, author and table of contents. Practice simple math with family members by doing things like counting change.
