Important Information
Start and Dismissal
Students can be dropped off at 8:30am (please give your hugs and kisses at the gate). They will then proceed to their classroom. Please do not drop them off before 8:30 as there is no supervision for your student.
Dismissal is at the gate starting at 3:30. PLEASE - if you are getting out of your car to pick up your student, park in the parking lot across the street. Please make sure you park in a designated parking spot. This will also enable our buses to proceed to the bus lane. The pick-up lane is only for parents who are not getting out of their cars. Please have your student's pick-up number visible to those staff members who are on duty.
Transportation
When school starts, you will be asked to fill out a form as to how your student gets to and from school each day. This form is for me (or any other staff member) to ensure your student is dismissed at the end of the day to the correct place (bus, parent pick up, Stingers or day care van). If your student's mode of transportation changes, please either write me a note or send me an email. If you send an email, please do so as early as possible (before 12). I do not always check my email at the end of the day. If it is an emergency, please call the office at (623) 445-4100 and they will get in touch with me.
Field Trips and Special Events
Field Trips and Special Events will be held throughout the year to enhance curriculum and classroom lessons. Locations, dates and times will be sent home prior to the event. If you would like to participate in these events, please make sure you have attended a volunteer training in the district.
Birthdays
It is exciting to have a birthday during the school year. Yes, you can have your child celebrate his/her birthday in class. You may send in a snack or goodie to celebrate your child’s birthday. We will celebrate birthdays at the end of our day. Please let me know in advance so that I can adjust our class schedule. Our classroom is a nut free classroom as we have kiddos who are allergic to nuts, so please do not bring in any treats that have nuts in them. Keep in mind all treats brought to school must be store bought and in the original container with the ingredients label attached.
Volunteer
If you would like to volunteer for our field trips, you will need to be volunteer trained. This is a one-time training. It will be offered several times throughout the year. If you are not able to attend a training at our school, you may attend a training at a different school. If you do, please bring the paperwork to the front office so we have it on file.
Class Shirts
We also have class shirts! If you would like to order a Horn's Hedgehogs shirt, please contact me. Class shirts are $10 and are worn on Field Trips, Field Day, etc. Students can also earn PARK Tickets for wearing their shirt on Fridays.

Class Expectations
Student Expectations: It is important that our class is a family and shows respect to everyone. Ms. Horn and her Hedgehogs are expected to work together and respect the learning of all students. We will talk things out when problems arise and work together to find solutions. Homework is rarely assigned, but we are expected to turn in our homework when it is assigned. All students are held to high expectations, and we will work together to help all students get there.
Parent/Guardian Expectations: It is important that we work together as a team to support the students. ClassDojo is my form of communication with parents and guardians. Please make sure you join our class so that you are up-to-date on things going on in class, and so we can communicate quickly and easily throughout the year. Adults should also check the student's backpack frequently for work that is sent home, as well as check PowerSchool to stay on top of grades.

About Ms. Horn
Hello! My name is Ms. Horn. I grew up in Munster, Indiana and moved to Arizona when I was in 5th grade. I was a student in the Deer Valley district through middle and high school. After graduating from Boulder Creek High School, I went to Northern Arizona University for a year while studying Hotel and Restaurant Management. As much as I enjoyed getting to know people while working in hotels, I knew I wanted to do more and make a difference in the lives of others.
I transferred to Arizona State University and pursued a degree in Elementary Education. I graduated with this degree in 2016. I began teaching 3rd grade in Avondale and also started my Master's degree in Early Childhood Education. After finishing my Master’s degree in 2018, I transitioned down into a K/1 combo class. I loved working with the younger students and working with them on essential academic and social behaviors. This has quickly become my passion: to help students learn how to express themselves, embrace their emotions, and how to solve problems. I have taught kindergarten and 3rd grade since coming to Deer Valley and am excited to be teaching 1st grade this year!
I have a 9-year-old son who attends Park Meadows. I love being able to be so involved in his education. I am excited about being a come-back kid and teaching in Deer Valley!
I look forward to teaming up with you and your children this year.
