About Miss Weber
This is Ms. Weber's second year at Park, both teaching ELA, or reading and writing. She absolutely loves her job, and has lots of energy, being only 23 years old. Reading and writing are her favorite subjects, and wants reading/writing to be enjoyable for others, even those who struggle or don't particularly like it! We will do lots of cursive, and the occasional letter writing, on the side of our main lessons.
Prior, she came from 4th grade at Desert Sage Elementary. She has a big family: three younger sisters, an older stepbrother, two nephews, and a few other close immediate family members. She has two dogs, a Pitbull-Whippet mix (mostly Pit) and a Cairn Terrier (basically a Shih Tzu). Ms. Weber loves painting, drawing, making jewelry, organizing, writing, reading, dying her hair, and trying new things. As stated, we have two dogs, and love spending time outside (moreso in the cooler weather). Ms. Weber is pen pals with a few of her grandparents, and is trying to get the rest into writing more, as well! Hopefully the students can write their old teachers, and each other, as time passes!
Some things Ms. Weber likes:
GREEN, rainbows!!!, pencils, butterflies and ladybugs, humpback whales, coffee and sweet tea (Dutch Bros mostly), Crunch (chocolate bars), dark chocolate, trail mix, crackers, cheez-its, apple-themed items, stickers, colors, homemade cards, and Harry Styles (from One Direction<3).
(Harry Styles is the most realistic gift option. Feel free to surprise her with him, as it is not only super easy to do, free, but he is also super attainable. <3)Class Expectations
HOMEWORK:
The regular reading homework will be a reading log of some sort. They are due every Friday (or Thursday, if there is no school on a Friday); however, make-up work or incomplete in-class work might become homework. Optional "No Red Ink" assignments can be completed in the students' free time, to improve their grammar (spelling, punctuation, etc.). Additional 'rewards' will be given to students who do theirs as the year progresses. Students can potentially get in trouble with their teachers if they rarely fill out/turn in their reading logs.
Most importantly, students must read around 30 minutes each weekday at home. If time permits, students can read in their free time, but in ELA class there is a lot to do in such a short time. On every reading log there is a section for guardians to sign their child's work, but that is just strongly encouraged and not mandatory. Each student is expected to complete all homework assignments and turn them in on time. However, if an emergency should occur, we will accept late homework per the district guidelines (district deadlines for report cards will supersede this exception).
DISCIPLINE:
Park Meadows is proud to promote the All Things E.Q. program to support your child’s social-emotional learning (SEL). We are very excited about giving fifth graders a positive voice through our class discussions and encouragement to become individuals of character. Each week includes a motto that will be taught and reinforced daily.
Our school is a positive behavior support school, which means we celebrate students for displaying positive behaviors.
At Park Meadows, we are Prepared, Accountable, Respectful, and Kind.
Within the classroom, all students are expected to adhere to those norms. Additionally, 5th (and 6th) graders will be using P.A.R.K. Cards (an upgraded version of GRIT cards, for those who have had students in our classes prior) to reinforce positive behaviors. A separate letter detailing the P.A.R.K. Card will be sent home within the first week of school. Email for any additional questions and clarifications.
PLEASE check your students' P.A.R.K. Card DAILY!!!!
E.L.A. Supply Wishlist (optional)
SUPPLIES:
ELA Class-specific supplies students may need:
Honestly, all of this is provided by the school, as we are Title 1, but students can get cuter, customized items on their own if they prefer! The school only provides basic, solid colored items.
For example, students may wish to have a Minecraft, Pokémon, Hello Kitty, Roblox, etc. folder or notebook, themed pencils, or whatever their hearts desire, all at your expense!(;
- Pencils!!!
- A folder (to put work to take home/reading logs)
- Highlighter(s)
- A notebook or two (spiral or composition - student's preference)
- Pen (used for peer editing)
- A pencil case for themselves?
Communication
We will be using email as our primary mode of communication. Please be certain you have a working and accurate email on file with the school. We send out almost ALL of our communication via email, and it is important that you check your email regularly. We do not use Class Dojo.
You can also see your child's P.A.R.K. Card for more info on their daily/weekly behaviors.
Please reach out with any questions at all! We will check our emails mostly before and after school hours, so please allow us a business day or two to reply.
